Hi, my name is Darlene! 

I have been a resident of York Region for over 21 years, and have lived in the Summerhill North subdivision of Newmarket for the past 17 years. I am your neighbour, a member of your community, and a parent who wants children to be happy and successful everyday. 

I am a parent of four children who completed their education in York Region schools; one son and three daughters. I live in Ward 6 of Newmarket, and my children all attended Clearmeadow Public School, three attended Sir William Mulock Highschool, and one attended the Arts program at Huron Heights. I understand the importance of strong schools, supportive learning environments, and engaged families. 

My background in communications and advocacy has given me valuable experience listening to people, connecting communities with important information and advocating for meaningful change. Through my work with CHATS-Community & Home Assistance to Seniors, I have seen firsthand how much compassion, understanding and a strong voice can make a difference. I care deeply about people of all ages and believe every member of our community mattters- seniors, children, parents, families, educators, all school staff, and the people who support them. As a trustee, I will bring that same caring and compassionate approach to listening to students, families and educators, advocating for their needs and ensuring their voices are heard. 

Over the years, I have been actively involved in school communities through parent councils, serving in roles including Co-Chair, Fundraising Lead, Volunteer Coordinator, Event Organizer, and General Member. These experiences have given me firsthand knowledge into the opportunities and challenges facing students, families, and educators. As a mother, I advocated for my children when they needed it. I was their voice. I will be the voice for your children too. 

I am passionate about making a positive difference and advocating for students and families in Newmarket. I have been involved in the Newmarket community volunteering and working with non-profit organizations, and represented Newmarket as a Community Positivity Ambassador during the pandemic. Newmarket is a great place to live, and I want to give back to the amazing people who live and raise their families here. We are a community and it takes a village to make  change. By working together, we can accomplish much.

I look forward to listening to our community, working collaboratively, and helping ensure every student has the support and opportunities they need to succeed.I look forward to meeting you at your door in the next few months.
